The Miami Marlins fired Mike Redmond on Sunday afternoon and may be targeting Dusty Baker to take his place.

Despite only being less than six games out of first place in the NL East, the sliding Miami Marlins have fired manager Mike Redmond and are looking for his replacement to correct the damage. Redmond had a losing record with the Marlins over the last three seasons, and the Marlins are hoping to make a push for the postseason this year.

The Marlins not only fired Redmond on Sunday, but they fired their bench manager too — which means a managerial change is happening from outside the organization.

According to Bob Nightingale from USA Today Sports, the Miami Marlins might want to consider Dusty Baker as manager.

Of course, that’s not a concrete report of interest, but the Marlins need to find someone they can have faith in on the bench managing the team. Dusty Baker has had his ups and downs in baseball, most recently managing with the Cincinnati Reds, but he went to the World Series with the San Francisco Giants in 2002 before moving on to manage the Chicago Cubs to the postseason in 2003.

Baker has been often criticized for being too old school in his managing, which has cost teams chances to win. But he’s been around for over 20 years as a manger and he’s due to get another job at some point. That could be now with the Miami Marlins, as the bar hasn’t been set very high but it’s a job that carries massive expectations that could put Baker back on the map in a big way.
