Kent Bazemore drains buzzer beater for Hawks in Game 1 (Video)
By Josh Hill
The Atlanta Hawks drained a buzzer beater at halftime that featured absent defense by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Matthew Dellavedova messed up big twice in one quarter for the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 1 against the Atlanta Hawks, and they’re mistakes that could come back to bite him in a big way. The first mistake involved an alley-oop lob to no one at all, but the second mistake might have a bigger ripple effect over the course of the game.
The Atlanta Hawks tied the game up right before halftime on a buzzer beater that should probably have the Cavaliers really worried about the second half.
There’s so much wrong with this play on Cleveland’s end that it’s not even funny. All of the problems start though with Matthew Dellavedova and his poor defense. Scratch that, his non-existent defense led to this easy bucket by that Hawks that swung major momentum back in their direction.
Delly was supposed to be underneath, making sure Bazemore doesn’t swing out and get open — which is what he did. Instead, Dellavedova is just standing there at the top of the key doing nothing other than watching a shot he should have been defending go in.
That’s not championship basketball and while it’s not the difference between a win and a loss in the series, it could be something that allows the Hawks to get advantages they otherwise shouldn’t be afforded.
