Strange things happen in sports each and every day. Wednesday was no different as Chicago Cubs‘ starting pitcher Tsuyoshi Wada found a random credit card on the field after walking off the mound in the third inning.
This was Wada’s first game of the season after dealing with a groin strain in Spring Training. The Japanese-born pitcher had a solid outing, pitching 4.2 innings, racking up nine strikeouts and allowing just two runs as the Cubs defeated the San Diego Padres, 3-2.
Wada is 34 years old, but in his second year in the majors after the Cubs signed him to his second one-year deal prior to the 2015 season.
He’s only been pitching in the United States for a little over a year, yet he has accomplished something that seemingly no other pitcher has before: finding a random credit card in foul territory while walking off the field.
While there is no record of any other player finding such thing on the field, it’s safe to assume this isn’t a very regular occurence.
Not often do you see a pitcher jog off the field and bend down to pick up a credit card and hand it to security. Kind of interesting seeing as the only people to step foot on the field are the players, umpires, security and grounds crew.
Wada signed a one-year, $4 million deal this past offseason, so he didn’t need the money anyways.
Quite the eventful first start of the year for the 34-year-old starter.
