DeMarre Carroll, the starting forward for the Atlanta Hawks, could be playing in Game 2 on Friday night after suffering what appeared to be a devastating knee injury in the fourth quarter of Game 1 against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

DeMarre Carroll was helped off the court in the fourth quarter of Game 1 of the Atlanta Hawks’ Eastern Conference finals match up against the Cleveland Cavaliers after suffering what appeared to be a pretty significant knee injury.

As the Hawks fell to the Cavs, 97-89, it seemed that their playoff hopes were being carted off the court as Carroll was himself. But fortunately, Carroll could be ready to go for game 2. After an MRI revealed no major damage to his knee and his status was going to be day-to-day, that could end up being a possibility.

Without Carroll, the Hawks would have been sitting ducks for the Cavs to take. With no one to guard LeBron James but the struggling Kyle Korver, everyone knows what chances the team with the best regular season record in the East has against the King and company.

If Carroll’s status goes from “day-to-day” to “active”, the Hawks stand a fighting chance. His solid perimeter defense is enough to at least slow LeBron down, which is what they are going to need to do if they plan on bouncing back from that Game 1 loss.

The Hawks have played well as a team all season. The main reason for their success was having the depth and coaching to sub in players at every position keeping players refreshed and healthy. With a single piece missing from their roster, they become vulnerable. Which makes it all that much more important to have Carroll in the lineup come Friday.
