The Lakers have the No. 2 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft and it looks as if they’ll be staying right where they are

This past week the Los Angeles Lakers did pretty well at the NBA Draft Lottery, drawing the No. 2 slot right behind the Minnesota Timberwolves. Of course, there are some rumblings that they might want to trade out of the spot, but it doesn’t seem like that will be the case come draft time.

Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak made an appearance Thursday with Colin Cowherd, and that’s where he revealed that it’s looking pretty likely that they’ll be staying put right where they are at No. 2.

“It looks as though we’ll use our pick this year,” Kupchak said via ESPN.com.

As for who the Lakers might be looking at, well, Kupchak seems to be on board with taking one of the big men that will be available, either Karl-Anthony Towns or Jahlil Okafor.

“Clearly, at the top of the draft at this time, there are two bigs, and we have the second pick,” Kupchak told Cowherd.

Kupchak and Cowherd did also discuss how guard play has begun to take over the NBA, and big men might not be as valuable as they once were. However, there’s no question that the Lakers could use one of those big guys to pair with Kobe Bryant and last year’s draft pick, the returning Julius Randle. While taking a guard might be tempting, the smart move would be to snatch up whichever big man the Timberwolves do not take at the top.
