The Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly in discussion for a trade involving Alberto Callaspo, Juan Uribe and minor league prospects.
The Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers are in discussions to trade third basemen Alberto Callaspo and Juan Uribe, FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal is reporting.
Sources: #Dodgers talking to #Braves about trade that would send Uribe to ATL for Callaspo. Lesser names also involved.

According to Rosenthal, Uribe and Callaspo are the cornerstones of the deal, though there will also be minor league prospects involved, making it a six-player trade. The Dodgers will likely acquire pitchers from the Braves’ deep farm system and could give up some cash to offset the contract discrepancy between the third basemen.
Sources: Deal between #Dodgers and #Braves would involve six players. Uribe and minor leaguer for Callaspo and three minor leaguers.

Some of minor leaguers #Dodgers would receive from #Braves would add to team’s pitching depth.

Callaspo was a late scratch from Atlanta’s lineup on Monday, a move that manager Fredi Gonzalez admitted was due to a potential trade on the table – though at the time Uribe’s name was not attached to the deal.
"“I get a phone call just before BP (batting practice) that there’s a chance for a potential trade out there, and I think it’s still going on,” Gonzalez said, in reply to a reporter’s question about the late lineup change. “We don’t want him to get out there and get hurt, so that was the reason that he got taken out of the lineup at that point.”"
When asked about the deal himself, Callaspo told reporters that the he had been informed, but that the Braves informed him to “wait until tomorrow (Tuesday)” for more news.
Callaspo has the ability to deny any trade prior to June 15, though there has been no word as to whether he would renege on a deal to the Dodgers.
Callaspo, as a free agent who signed last off-season, has right to reject any trade before June 15. That may be holdup, one source says.

On paper, in terms of immediate impact, this looks like a lateral move for both teams. Both Uribe and Callaspo have underperformed this season thus far, and the teams may believe that a change of scenery could jumpstart each individual. For the Dodgers, they’d have a less expensive veteran to platoon with Alex Guerrero and Justin Turner. As for the Braves, Uribe would be a fill-in as Chris Johnson works his way back into the starting lineup following a stint on the 15-day DL (broken hand). Should it go through, the merits of the trade will likely weigh on whom each team receives from the minors.
