Kyle Long gave a terse Twitter assessment of the Bears’ decision to cut Ray McDonald.

News broke on Monday afternoon that Chicago Bears defensive lineman Ray McDonald had been arrested in San Jose, California on a domestic abuse charge and potential child endangerment. It was the third domestic incident for McDonald in the past calendar year – he was arrested in August 2014 for suspicion of felony domestic violence, and was accused of sexual assault in December.

Following that December situation, McDonald was released by the San Francisco 49ers. He has yet to face any punishment from the league for the incident (he was not punished for the August arrest, after there was no indictment), and has countersued the accuser on grounds of defamation of character.

Despite the tarnished off-the-field image, the Chicago Bears decided to give McDonald a chance this offseason (taking plenty of flak for the decision). The defensive lineman flew to Chicago to meet with team officials and wowed them enough that they signed him to a one-year contract with no guaranteed money. The thought being that McDonald, if he could keep his nose clean, would reunite with his former San Francisco defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and revive a promising career.

Such was not the case, and shortly after word of his arrest spread, McDonald was cut by the Bears.

Hot takes and think pieces shook out of from under the Memorial Day malaise to weigh in. However, it was now-former teammate Kyle Long’s terse, two-word statement that perfectly encapsulated the entire saga.

Short, sweet and to the point. One less distraction on a team that could desperately use a cohesive locker room heading into the new season.
