Noah Syndergaard, aka Thor, hits first MLB homer

New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard hit a monster home run, his first in MLB.

If you were to select the cast of the movie “Avengers” using MLB players to play the roles of the superheroes, here is why you should select New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard to play Thor.

The 6-foot-4 Noah Syndergaard was a first round pick (38th overall) in the 2010 MLB Draft. Syndergaard was selected by and signed with the Blue Jays instead of returning to college cause that’s what superheroes do!

Entering the 2012 season, Syndergaard was ranked by MLB.com as the 95th overall best prospect. On December 17th of that year, Syndergaard was part of trade that sent him to the New York Mets in exchange for reigning Cy Young award winner R.A. Dickey. Talk about dropping the hammer!

In 2014, Syndergaard pitched with the Mets AAA affiliate the Las Vegas 51’s. To feed the whole superhero theme, he led the PCL in strikeouts with 145.

In every superheroes story there is a call for help. After starting with Las Vegas and pitching to a 3-0 record with a 1.82 ERA, Syndergaard finally got that call from the Mets after an injury to Dillon Gee.

After four MLB starts, Thor is sporting a 2.55 ERA and 1.09 WHIP after four major league starts. Of course, the coolest thing about Thor is the power wielded by his hammer.

Dear Baseball Gods,

You have already taken away so many pitchers this season with Tommy John surgery and even took away Adam Wainwright with an Achilles injury.  If we nickname a baseball player after a mythological God, that means you will leave him alone right? Thanks.
