Piece of a scoreboard falls onto seated spectators at the U.S. Open.

This is the closest comparison we’ll ever get to Roland Garros and Wrigley Field.

A large piece of metal fell and landed on a group of seated spectators at the French Open on Tuesday afternoon. During the second set of the quarterfinal match between Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Kei Nishikori, a piece of paneling fell from the top of the arena’s scoreboard before eventually falling into the stands.

As a result, the match was postponed for more than 40 minutes.

The whole incident was caught on film.

This had to be incredibly frightening for the people in the stands. Just take a look at this thing. It’s a massive piece of metal.

The French Open confirmed that the accident occurred and gave an update on the fans involved.

Officials proceeded to clear out the area where the fans were sitting and play resumed.

Let’s hope these fans were upgraded to better seats. It’s the least they deserve after that ordeal.

Judging by the size of that piece of metal, not to mention to height at which it fell from, it is a minor miracle that more people were not injured. For the three who were, hopefully they have a speedy recovery.
