Catching a home run ball as a kid was the main goal when going to a professional baseball game. Heading to the park with a glove in hand and hoping their parents purchased seats that could see a lot of stray balls, young kids seem to always be having a good time at the ballpark.
Some kids have the benefit of having older fans hand them foul balls and home runs because of the fact that they are just more willing to be excited about a dingy baseball.
At the Detroit Tigers game on Tuesday night, the hometown squad faced off against the Oakland Athletics, a team in which they would usually beat up on, and eventually lost, 5-3.
During the course of the game, there were many balls that flied into the stands, whether it was a foul or home run, but none was more memorable than the grand slam that Athletics second baseman Ben Zobrist hit, giving his team a two-run lead that happened to be the difference in the game.
The fan on the opposite end of that home run ball was a young child who happened to make a spectacular play on the ball. While it should have been a time for excitement in this young Tigers fan’s life, his happiness was quickly overshadowed by sadness after realizing the home run put his favorite team behind in the runs column.
This video perfectly encapsulates how every single Tigers fan feels right now since they have lost 8-of-10 games and five in a row. The offense has been non-existent and the pitching staff has a lot of pressure to pitch a gem in order to record a victory.
Oakland is far from one of the best teams in baseball, but they took game one of the series because of this home run and this fan will likely go home with his head in his glove despite making the play of a lifetime.
Poor kid.
H/T: Bless You Boys
