Aqib Talib comments on Patriots and DeflateGate issue
Everyone is weighing in on the New England Patriots and the DeflateGate controversy. One of the most compelling opinions belongs to Denver Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib, who played for the Patriots in 2013 before joining Denver last year.
Talib doesn’t have much to say on the subject, insisting that he never heard anything about footballs and their SI level while playing with Tom Brady, per Pro Football Talk.
"“I had no idea,” Talib said. “When I was there, Tom [Brady] didn’t go around telling people about his footballs and stuff like that. I don’t know what happened. That’s New England’s problem. We’ve got enough problems to worry about in Denver.”"
Talib has no reason to defend New England or Brady, so if he had some dirt on them, it stands to reason he would have come right out with it. Talib seems to have completely moved on from the situation, something that playing with Peyton Manning can do for you.
In 2014, Talib had an inconsistent year with Denver. The Broncos gave Talib a six-year, $57 million contract to be their top corner for years to come, only to watch Chris Harris Jr. put together a much more success campaign. Talib is really only guaranteed one more year with the Broncos if he doesn’t improve. In 2016, Talib has a $10 million cap hit but would only cost general manager John Elway $3 million in dead money to release him.
New England has paid the price for illegally inflating footballs. Brady has been suspended for the first our games of the season, although he is currently appealing his ban and maintaining total innocence. The team was also fined $1 million and docked two draft picks, including their 2016 first-round selection.
