Junior Lake incites Chicago Cubs and Miami Marlins brawl
By Len Nunes
The benches cleared during the Chicago Cubs and Miami Marlins game due to a cocky gesture during a home run trot.
The book on Junior Lake is that he is a big, strong kid with good bat speed. The issue is that the harder he seems to work on his plate discipline, the less power he has shown.
On June 3rd against the Miami Marlins, Junior Lake hit his first homer of 2015. Mr. Lake broke a cardinal rule of running the bases on a home run. No, not just the slow trot, Lake threw in a gesture toward the Miami Marlins bench.
Here’s some back story for you to help explain the shush sent toward the Marlins dugout.
In the fourth inning, Marlins pitcher Dan Haren hit Starlin Castro with a pitch. Castro homered on Monday and pulled out the very slow home run trot.
Okay so I can somewhat appreciate the bravado shown by Junior Lake as he shushed the Marlins bench rounding third, but dude, your team is down by six runs. You only hit a 2-run homer. By my math, your team is still losing badly. With the game being in the 6th inning already, maybe just run the bases quietly and professionally.
I completely understand Marlins catcher J.T. Realmuto having some words with Junior Lake. The Chicago Cubs may in a different division than the Miami Marlins but a rivalry is being born during this series.
I always thought the Cubbies were suppose to be loveable.
