Who can sneak up this season and capture the 2015 Heisman Trophy?

While it doesn’t necessarily translate to NFL readiness, the Heisman Trophy is an earmark of a player who has an awful lot of talent and can perform at the highest levels against NCAA opponents. Each year we watch as an almost literal race is run throughout the regular season.

While last season saw Marcus Mariota as the favorite for the entire season, more often than not there are several contenders. That should be the case this season as Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliot, USC quarterback Cody Kessler, Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott and Leonard Fournette at LSU are all front-runners, and there are some very close next-tier players who will cloud the picture all season long as well.

Sometimes though, there are players who emerge as the year goes on and become viable candidates. They emerge out of the smoke at some point, making us wonder just what we missed when we made our guesses in the preseason.

These players aren’t sure things—and maybe they shouldn’t be—but for one reason or another, they aren’t people we have been giving much thought to as Heisman contenders.

Today we’re trying to give you (and ourselves) a slight leg up by looking at five players who aren’t quite on anyone’s radar in a serious way to win this trophy. They aren’t sure bets, but they very well could shock us come the end of the season.

Feel free to add your own down in the comments. Who did we miss and why should they be on the list?
