J.R. Smith likes to take a lot of shots, and occasionally they go in — and usually they’re amazing to watch.

It’s not often that J.R. Smith is in a groove, but that’s not really through any fault of his teammates. Every shot that J.R. Smith is totally on J.R. Smith, but luckily for him, he has a terrible memory. The shot selection of J.R. Smith is pure sugar, and he has not a care in the world that his teeth are rotted out — he just keeps going.

Normally, this results in ridicule on social media, but it means more opportunities for him to do something amazing. That happened in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday night.

Right before halftime, with the game tied, the Cavaliers figured they’d give J.R. Smith a what the hell shot to attempt — and he drained it.

Cleveland literally had nothing to lose with this J.R. Smith shot and it paid off big time. Low risk, high reward has been the key to J.R. Smith’s success this postseason as the Cavaliers are efficient enough for him to do things like take crazy, off balance shots from way beyond the arc and not have it kill them.

It doesn’t always pay off, but when it does it’s sweet and J.R. Smith is living up to his reputation in more than one way.
