Rugby superstar and former All Black captain Jerry Collins was killed in a car crash early Friday morning in France. 

The world of rugby is mourning the loss of a superstar, as former All Blacks captain Jerry Collins was killed in a car crash on Friday morning in France.

According to reports, Collins and his wife Alana were killed when their car crashed into a bus. The couple were traveling with their three-month old daughter, who is reported as being critically injured in the crash that killed her parents.

The loss comes as a massive shock to the sports world. Collins was only 34-years old and had plenty of years of both his playing career and his life ahead of him. All of that has been cut short in a tragic accident that has stunned fans all over the globe.

Tim Castle, who was Collins’ long-standing manager, released a statement on behalf of the grieving family — a family that extends well beyond Collins’ immediate relatives.

"“The family and I are distraught at the death of a much-loved son, brother and friend, and his partner Alana, whom I got to know recently. I have been in touch with Jerry’s father Frank and other members of his family who are in Samoa at the moment. It’s obviously a terribly difficult time for them and together with New Zealand Rugby we are doing all we can to support them.”"

The life of Collins is already being celebrated by fans all over the world who watched him win 48 caps with the All Blacks in a career in rugby that started all the way back in 2001.

It’s a tragedy that will leave fans of the sport grieving for a while, as the world lost more than just a talented flanker on Friday, it lost a great soul.
