Baseball is a game of strategy. Managers are constantly looking to counteract pitchers with hitters who offer favorable matchups – usually those who bat from the opposite side of the plate – and vice versa. However, anyone going up against Oakland Athletics‘ relief pitcher Pat Venditte better find a new strategy.

Venditte is one of the rarest specimens in the game today, and he is someone whom I would personally pay money to see pitch just because of the novelty.

What do I mean by this? Well, Venditte is an ambidextrous pitcher, meaning he can throw with both arms. More than that, he pitches well with both arms. While it might be common for a batter to be a switch hitter, seeing an ambidextrous pitcher throw mid-80s and higher with both arms is nothing short of unbelievable.

Just watch for yourself:

Venditte is a 29-year-old reliever who pitched in his first game on Friday against the Boston Red Sox, going two innings, allowing one hit and striking out one in a loss. He has some solid stuff and can throw about the same speed with both arms, which is remarkable.

This type of rarity could potentially change the game by nullifying most batting substitution strategies — especially when you consider the arm slot from which he throws.

Venditte had a stellar MLB debut and it could be the start of something special for his career.
