The Cleveland Cavaliers lost Kyrie Irving for the rest of the postseason, but that’s not getting Dan Gilbert down as he’s compared them to the Ohio State Buckeyes.

When the Ohio State Buckeyes lost Braxton Miller before the start of last season, just about everyone wrote them off when it came to winning a national championship. When they lost Miller’s replacement before the College Football Playoffs, they were blasted for getting a spot in the tournament.

None of that stopped the Buckeyes from winning the national championship with third string quarterback Cardale Jones.. That’s something that has motivated Dan Gilbert to make comparisons between one winning Ohio program and one trying to win for the first time ever.

According to David Lombardi from ESPN, Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert likened the Cavaliers losing Kyrie Irving to the Ohio State Buckeyes losing two quarterbacks on their way to winning the National Championship.

It’s a bit hasty to compare the Buckeyes to the Cavaliers, but it’s not a huge stretch. There’s some notable differences between the Buckeyes and the Cavaliers, mainly that the Buckeyes won two single elimination games to hoist the national championship where Cleveland needs to string together four wins over the course of seven games.

There’s also the fact that the Cavaliers have LeBron James to lean on, which still makes them a dangerous threat. What you can appreciate though is the fact that the Buckeyes were able to win with their third string quarterback, and the Cavaliers are in a position to win with Matthew Dellavedova — a comparison that didn’t have to be made but makes sense anyways.
