After an apparent hit-and-run incident, the New England Patriots have cut ties with Brandon Spikes

Well, the New England Patriots are certainly doing their best to show that they have every intentions of keeping a clean image going forward. One day after it was revealed that a car registered to Brandon Spikes was involved in a hit-and-run incident, the team has cut the veteran linebacker, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

On Sunday the news began to come to light that a car registered in Spikes’ name was found abandoned with some damage to the front end on I-495 in Foxborough, home of the Patriots. When police arrived on the scene very early Sunday morning, the car was in the median and there was no driver to be found.

Shortly after, police responded to a report of another car with damage on the road, although this time there were occupants in the car and they claim they were rear-ended by a vehicle they didn’t see. Putting all the pieces together here, this seems like a classic hit-and-run incident.

After the news broke on Sunday, a Patriots spokesperson issued this response:

"“We are aware of the report and are looking into the matter, but I don’t have any additional comment at this time.”"

Well, they haven’t really made any more comments about the matter, but this action right here might speak louder than anything they can say at this point.

The Patriots drafted Spikes with the No. 62 overall pick in the second round of the 2010 draft out of Florida and he remained with the team through 2013, becoming one of their most proficient players on the defensive side of the ball. Last year he moved on to the division rival Buffalo Bills, however the Patriots re-signed him prior to this year. For his career, Spikes has recorded 340 tackles with two sacks.
