When the Philadelphia Eagles released left guard Evan Mathis on Thursday afternoon, alarm bells starting going off inside the heads of 31 National Football League general managers. Mathis, 33, was rated by Pro Football Focus as the second-best guard last year, only behind Marshal Yanda of the Baltimore Ravens.

Mathis is likely looking for a multi-year deal with some lucrative terms, but he’s worth the coin. After bouncing around from 2005-10 with the Carolina Panthers, Miami Dolphins and Cincinnati Bengals, Mathis spent the last four years with the Eagles, making the Pro Bowl twice and being named an All-Pro in 2013.

Getting Mathis only a month and a half out of training camp would be a massive upgrade for almost every team in the league. However, only a few teams are probably going to attract the veteran’s attention. Mathis is getting up there in age and has never been to a conference championship game, let alone a Super Bowl. Assuming this is a chief goal for him, the best destinations will have some cap space and title aspirations.

While many teams are a decent fit for Mathis, let’s take a look at which five are the likeliest for him to land on.

All of the following cap numbers are per OverTheCap.com.
