NFL Rumors: Dez Bryant could miss Cowboys’ opener if no long-term deal is met
By Jack Crosby
Dez Bryant might be ready to stay off the field for the Cowboys if he can’t get a new deal inked up rather soon
The contract saga between the Dallas Cowboys and one of the best wide receivers in the National Football League, Dez Bryant, could be coming to a head soon and something very terrible might come of it–Dez Bryant not being on the field for the Cowboys when they open up the 2015 season.
According to a report from ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, if Bryant and the Cowboys can’t come to a new long-term deal by the July 15 deadline, then he’s prepared to skip the first game the team plays this upcoming season.
This off-season the Cowboys slapped the franchise tag on Bryant, however he has not signed it yet as he holds out for a new long-term deal from the organization. Had Bryant signed the tag, then he’d be guaranteed over $12 million in 2015. Despite that large number, though, Bryant wants a commitment from the Cowboys, and to this point, it doesn’t seem like they’re all that willing to give it.
In helping lead the Cowboys to the playoffs last season, Bryant had a phenomenal year in which he caught 88 balls for 1,320 yards and 16 touchdowns. Many thought the monster year would be enough for Jerry Jones to sit down and hand Bryant a lucrative deal that would keep him with the team for the foreseeable future, but so far that has been far from the case.
This is just another chapter in this whole saga, but everything is quickly coming to a close here, with the deadline for Bryant to receive a new deal is, again, July 15.
