After the NBA Finals looked like things were going to be defined by a single injury. While that injury may still play a role in things, the bottom line is that both the Cavaliers and Warriors have what it takes to win — and both have just enough wrong with them to lose.
Through four games in the NBA Finals, one thing is clear — neither of these teams are invincible.
Cleveland is 2-1 without Kyrie Irving in the lineup, but they can’t afford to even that record. Doing so would mean going down 3-2 in a series they must return to Cleveland leading. It’s not that the Cavaliers are a bad road team, it’s just that if you don’t absolutely have to return to Oracle Arena more than once, you’re going to take the opportunity not to do so.
That’s what Cleveland can do on Sunday night in Game 5 of the NBA Finals.
On the other hand, the Warriors are in front of one of the loudest crowds in basketball and can return to Cleveland up in the series and with a guaranteed chance to win the NBA Finals on home court. They can close in Cleveland if they win Game 5, but they won’t lose before returning to Oracle Arena if they can muster up a win tonight.
