Angel McCoughtry wins it for the Dream at the buzzer
By Ian Levy
Angel McCoughtry is a two-time All-Star and a two-time WNBA scoring champion, and she showed why tonight, beating the buzzer with a clutch jumper to win the game for the Atlanta Dream.
It was a bizarre final few minutes, as the Sky battled back from a double-digit deficit in the final few minutes thanks to hard work from Elena Delle Donne and Cappie Pondexter. And, the refs. Usually blaming the refs is just an excuse, but in this case the Dream had a legitimate case, as the refs awarded Delle Donne an and-one for a shot that never went down. It gave the Sky an extra point with just under two minutes remaining, and if not for McCoughtry’s heroics, would have given Chicago the win.
The league office will surely have a look at the fiasco, but in the end, it didn’t matter. After a timeout with just over a second remaining, the Dream got the ball into their leader on the left wing. And she knew what to do from there, turning and burying the jumper.
Philips Arena was LIT all year as the Hawks made their run to the Eastern Conference Finals, but it looks like the Dream want to make sure that trend continues.
