The Philadelphia 76ers seem as if they will be keeping their new big man in Jahlil Okafor, not trade him

With the No. 3 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft on Thursday night, the Philadelphia 76ers stunned some people when not only did they not trade their pick, but they took Duke big man Jahlil Okafor. As soon as the pick was made, especially given their choosing of Joel Embiid last season, many believe that the move was made for a transaction down the road.

Well, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

According to Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the 76ers indeed plan on sticking with Okafor, raising a lot of eyebrows now around the entire league.

Now things get real interesting. Of course, the move makes sense when you think about the news that we received recently that Embiid has suffered a setback in his foot recovery. While it seemed for a while that Embiid was on track to make a comeback, something occurred that derailed those hopes, even going so far for some to speculate that he could miss all of next year as well.

When you look at it from that point of view, then the move absolutely makes sense. The Sixers can insert Okafor right into the lineup this season, providing some insurance that might be much needed if the reports about Embiid are true.

Whatever the case may be, over the past few years we’ve definitely learned that we can always count on the Sixers to make things interesting around draft time.
