Could Utah Jazz point guard Trey Burke be on the move on draft night?

When the Utah Jazz drafted Dante Exum to be their point guard of the future last season, many wondered where that left Trey Burke on the roster.

In 2013, the Jazz acquired Trey Burke on draft night, and after an impressive first year, it looked like Burke would be in the long-term plans for Utah. However, the team lucked into being in position to draft Exum last year and could not pass up the opportunity to draft the talented guard.

While Burke started the first half of the season last year, Exum eventually worked his way into the starting lineup and by the end of the year, the Jazz began to gel and looked like a team on the rise. During that time period, Burke was reduced to a bench role in his second season.

Now, it looks like Burke could possibly be on the move.

According to Mlive, which covers Michigan sports, where Trey Burke played his college ball, Burke could be on the move on draft night.

"Per a report from the Deseret News, the current Utah Jazz point guard and former Michigan star could be on the trading block tonight during the 2015 NBA draft.Per Deseret News Jazz writer Jody Genessy, Utah is considering including Burke in some type of draft night trade. The club acquired the former national player of the year on a draft night trade in 2013 after Burke was initially selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves."

While some might wonder why the Jazz don’t keep two talented point guards, it could make sense to cash in on Burke now while he is young and holds a lot of value. The Jazz also have Bryce Cotton on the roster, who showed some impressive moves last season.

It’s clear that Exum is the future in Utah at the point guard position and the team appears to be not far from playoff contention with him, Derrick Favors and Rudy Gobert leading the charge. Whether or not, Burke is there remains to be seen.

Don’t be surprised if he is moved at the draft.
