Seattle Seahawks 2015 Season Preview

The Seahawks finished last season with a 12-4 record and won the NFC West Division. The Seahawks made it all the way to the Super Bowl where they lost to the New England Patriots 28-24. Seattle added tight end Jimmy Graham to the roster via a trade with the New Orleans Saints. Graham is going to provide some spice to Seattle’s offensive production, which may provide Russell Wilson with an increase in fantasy output. Seattle is built like the other teams in the NFC West; they like to play strong defense and control the clock by running ball.

Quarterback

Russell Wilson

Wilson finished last season ranked 6th among quarterbacks in fantasy production with 411.85 fantasy points while averaging 25.74 points per game. Wilson had 12 games where he scored 20 fantasy points or more. Wilson is solid in fantasy. He has an accelerated floor with his rushing production. He’s very safe and will have very few weeks where he will be a bust.

Running Back

Marshawn Lynch

Lynch finished last season ranked 4th among running backs in fantasy production with 302.30 fantasy points while averaging 18.89 points per game. Lynch had 11 games where he scored 10 fantasy points or more, and he had 7 games where he scored 20 fantasy points or more. Lynch is a stud running back and merits being drafted in the first round. He does carry some risk because he is an older running back, and running backs who are older than 28 years of age risk having their production fall off a cliff, and Lynch is past that age. I’m not saying Lynch is not going to be productive, but I’m just saying there is some risk in drafting him.

Christine Michael

Michael has the ability to be a top-10 back if given the opportunity to have a full workload. Michael has been stuck behind Lynch during the last two seasons, and hasn’t had the opportunity to showcase his abilities. Michael is a player to put on your watch list, or draft as a handcuff for Lynch.

Robert Turbin

Turbin is another running back from the Seahawks to put on your watch list. He gets a lot of the 3rd down work, and will be valuable in fantasy if Lynch were to go down with an injury.

Wide Receiver

Doug Baldwin

Baldwin was 43rd among wide receivers with 170.80 fantasy points while averaging 10.68 fantasy points per game. Baldwin had 5 games where he scored 10 fantasy points or more. I’m not a fan of Baldwin. He doesn’t provide enough production to help your team win a championship. He’s cheap, he goes in the latter part of the draft, but I would rather take fliers on players with more upside.

Jermaine Kearse

Kearse was 72nd among wide receivers in fantasy production with 105.05 fantasy points on the year while averaging 7.0 fantasy points per game. Kearse had 4 games where he had 10 fantasy points or more. Kearse isn’t worth drafting for me. I would rather use my late round draft pick on a player that has more upside. Kearse should be on the waiver wire for most of the season.

Paul Richardson

Put Richardson on your watch list. He was drafted in the 2nd round last year by the Seahawks, but he injured his knee at the end of the season. Richardson isn’t a special talent, but if he could be fantasy relevant if he develops chemistry with Wilson and gets a lot of targets.

Tight End

Jimmy Graham

Graham finished last season ranked 2nd among tight ends in fantasy production with 233 fantasy points averaging 14.58 fantasy points per game. Graham had 9 games where he scored 10 fantasy points or more. The odds are highly likely that Graham’s production is going to drop a little bit due to his new environment, but he’s still going to be a candidate to finish as a top-5 tight end. He’s the best receiver in Seattle’s offense and he’s going to be their main red-zone option. He may not be worth a 1st round pick like the previous years, but he will help your team.

Defense/Special Teams

The Seattle Seahawks defense ranked 3rd in fantasy production last season with 150 fantasy points on the year. (ESPN Standard Scoring). The Seahawks have a really talented defense that is stocked with a lot of depth. If you don’t want to stream the position then you may want to pay the premium and draft Seattle.
