“If you ain’t a baller, you ain’t poppin'”: Lance Stephenson drops a new track
By Ian Levy
Lance Stephenson made a name for himself with the Indiana Pacers a few years ago as he helped them challenge the Miami Heat for the Eastern Conference crown. But after signing a big deal in free agency with the Charlotte Hornets, Stephenson had a disaster of a season. He just never quite clicked with Charlotte, and so they sent him packing a few weeks ago, shipping him off to the Los Angeles Clippers.
Now, Stephenson will once again have a chance to contend in the Playoffs, and maybe a change of scenery and the guidance of Chris Paul and Doc Rivers will be just what he needs. A fresh start can do everyone some good, and Stephenson has one.
And to celebrate, he jumped in the booth and recorded a new track called “Poppin.” Which, according to the intro, will be part of a new album he has coming soon. Usually when ball players try to make the jump from the “gym to the booth,” as Stephenson says, it’s a mistake. However, Stephenson actually sounds pretty good.
I mean…
“I pull up to the club in something foreign.
And we ain’t leave till early in the morning.
Don’t matter if we hoopin’ or recording,
Cause either way you know we out here ballin’. Aye!
If you ain’t a baller, you ain’t poppin’.
If you ain’t a baller, you ain’t poppin’.”
And then…
“The grind don’t never stop, I put in work.
Flexin’ on the gram, got these haters feelin’ hurt.”
Woooooo.
This is confirmed fire. Maybe if Lance struggles again this year he should just give up on hoops and focus on the booth.
