After this upcoming college basketball season, Bo Ryan will not be manning the bench for the Wisconsin Badgers

The college basketball world will be losing one of the best coaches this generation has to offer after next season is completed, as Wisconsin Badgers head coach has announced that he will retire after the campaign is all said and done. Ryan made the announcement officially on Monday afternoon.

In 14 seasons as the Wisconsin head coach, Ryan has turned Wisconsin into not only one of the formidable forces in the Big Ten, but the entire country. While he put together some good teams during his tenure in Madison, Ryan did not make a Final Four appearance until just two seasons ago, where the Badgers lost to Kentucky. However, he and his team would get their revenge this past season when they knocked off the Wildcats, who were carrying an undefeated record at the time and chasing history. Unfortunately, though, he couldn’t get his hands on that national championship, losing to Duke in the final game of the season.

Still, despite not having a national championship under his belt, Ryan has certainly made his mark as one of the best coaches that college basketball has ever had to offer. Not having him around anymore is a loss not just for Wisconsin, not just for the Big Ten, but for college basketball as a whole.

Ryan, in the 14 seasons at the helm, compiled an overall record of 357-125, and maybe more impressively, he’s lead the team to an NCAA Tournament appearance in each one of those seasons.

As for a replacement following the 2015-16 season, one was not announced on Monday. However, they’re expected to go the same way that Syracuse is going with Jim Boeheim, naming a current assistant to be his successor.
