On Sunday LeBron James made the move that we all expected he would be making, opting out of his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers. This was an act that we knew was coming before the free agency period hit on July 1, as he awaits to re-sign with the organization until after they make the necessary moves to keep this team in contention.
While we can’t always get what we want in life, LeBron James wants to see one person definitively be back on this time, that person being Tristan Thompson.
LeBron James was arguably the MVP of the Cavaliers’ recent NBA Finals run, but if there was anyone on the team that was a close second it was Tristan Thompson. Whether it was on the offensive or defensive end of the floor, Thompson was there making plays to keep this team alive, while also making himself a rich man in the process with his free agency looming.
Given his performance in the playoffs for the Cavaliers, Thompson may have earned himself a max contract –or at least close to it– something that LeBron would not mind seeing the Cavaliers cough up.
Of course, Thompson would be the first piece of the puzzle in regards to making sure that James returns to the Cavaliers under a new deal of his own, but it seems that he’s the most important piece of said puzzle at the moment.
