The Spurs have some needs that have to be addressed in free agency, but don’t expect Gregg Popovich to be jumping all over that immediately

The NBA Free Agency period is about to get underway, and there are a few teams around the league that are expected to be big-time players. One of those teams is the San Antonio Spurs, although they might not be as adamant to address what they need as others.

You see, when the free agency period hits at midnight Eastern Time, that’s when organizations begin to start calling the free agents, trying to get a leg up on everyone else. However, Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich has other ideas.

Rather than getting on the horn with potential franchise players as soon as possible, Popovich likes to choose something a little more important to him — sleep.

“I’m not calling anyone at midnight,” Popovich told the San Antonio Express-News on Monday. “I’ll be in bed. And if that’s the difference in someone coming or not coming, then I don’t want them.”

Well, if we’re being honest here, if anyone could take this frame of mind, it’s Gregg Popovich. Here’s a guy that can virtually make a mountain of pizza dough into an NBA All-Star, he’s just that good at what he does.

In regards to NBA free agency, though, things are a little different this year for the Spurs. They’re one of the teams that are in the lead for the services of LaMarcus Aldridge, who can certainly help this franchise to yet another NBA title. At the moment, they’re considered one of the front runners to get him.

But, if Aldridge wants to be a Spur, then he’d better not expect a call from Popovich in a few hours.
