It’s hard to believe that Adrian Gonzalez is still as successful now as he was five years ago. The 12-year veteran slugger has seen his numbers consistently increase in the past few years despite people declaring that his career over once he was traded to Los Angeles.

  • However, he has proven naysayers wrong by putting up solid numbers once again, at the age of 33. A-Gon is still a far cry from who he was with the San Diego Padres from 2006-10, but his dip in home runs has meant an increase, or at least steady plateau, in average and no major dip in RBI.

The career-.292 hitter has posted an average of .298 through 77 games this season while also including 13 homers and 48 RBI to his stat line.

Gonzalez may not be able to keep up this pace throughout the rest of the year, but he is helping the Dodgers hold a first-place lead in the NL West.

During a year in which Yasiel Puig has missed over a month of play and has hit just one home run since April 13, Gonzalez has stepped up his game to help the Dodgers become serious World Series threats. That alone could place him among the top MVP candidates in the league.
