Indianapolis Colts Season Preview

The Indianapolis Colts finished last season with an 11-5 record where they placed 1st in the AFC South Division. The Colts have a lot of appealing options for fantasy this season. Andrew Luck is one of the top quarterbacks in fantasy, and he fuels the entire offense with productive fantasy numbers. Every starting skilled player on the team is worth being drafted this season.

Quarterback

Andrew Luck

Last season Luck finished 1st among QBs in fantasy scoring with 499.10 points on the year averaging 31.19 points per game. Luck only had 1 game where he didn’t score 20 fantasy points or more. Luck is a stud. He has high upside and his floor is high as well. Luck merits the premium that he’s being drafted at.

Running Back

Frank Gore

Gore finished last season ranked 22nd among running backs with 158.70 fantasy points while averaging 9.92 fantasy points per game. While playing with the 49ers last season, Gore had 5 games where he scored 10 fantasy points or more. I look for Gore to get more receptions this season and be more of a factor around the goal line. Gore is going in the late 3rd-mid 4th round of fantasy drafts (ESPN ADP 40), and he could possibly finish in the top 12 of running backs if he can remain healthy.

Wide Receiver

T.Y. Hilton

Hilton ranked 12th among wide receivers in fantasy production with 262.00 fantasy points on the year, while averaging 17.48 points on the year. Hilton had 11 games where he scored 10 fantasy points or more and he had 4 games where he scored 20 fantasy points or more. Hilton is a PPR monster and he’s Luck’s favorite target. I look for Hilton to have another solid season as long as he remains healthy.

Andre Johnson

Johnson finished last season ranked 28th in fantasy production while playing with the Houston Texans with 196.60 fantasy points averaging 13.11 points per game. Johnson had 10 games where he scored 10 or more fantasy points last season. Johnson is going to get more targets this season compared to what he got last year with Houston. If Johnson can remain healthy, he has the potential to finish the season as a WR1. Johnson is also older with an injury history, so there’s a good chance he could be in and out of the lineup this season. There is some risk involved when drafting Johnson, but he has plenty of upside to be excited about.

Donte Moncrief

The Colts drafted him in the 3rd round of last year’s draft. He’s a high end wide receiver prospect who could break out if given the opportunity. He is worth drafting as an end of bench flier with one of the last picks in your draft. Moncrief could experience a heavy increase in value if Johnson would miss any games.

Phillip Dorsett

Dorsett is a player you should have on your watch list. The Colts drafted Dorsett in the first round of this year’s draft. There’s a chance that Dorsett beats out Moncrief for the WR3 job. He will also have a major rise in value if Hilton goes down with an injury.

Tight End

Coby Fleener

Fleener finished last season ranked 7th among tight ends with 180.15 fantasy points on the year while averaging 11.26 fantasy points per game. Fleener had 7 games where he had 10 fantasy points or more, and 2 games where he had 20 fantasy points or more. Fleener is going to be a nice late round tight end to draft this year. He’s a player you could definitely stream if he has a favorable match up.

Dwayne Allen

Allen finished last season ranked 19th among tight ends with 122.25 fantasy points and averaging 9.40 fantasy points per game. Allen had 6 games where he had 10 fantasy points or more. Allen missed some games last year due to injuries which is going to cause him to fall in your drafts this year. He is a bargain bin player because he’s going to deliver more fantasy output than where he is being drafted at. Allen is going to serve the best value as a weekly stream when playing favorable match ups.

Defense/Special Teams

The Colts DST finished 18th in the league with 104 fantasy points (ESPN Scoring). The Colts defense had 7 games where they scored 10 fantasy points or more, but they had 5 games where they scored in the negatives. The Colts defense is the ultimate streaming defense. They are going to be facing Blake Bortles, Marcus Mariota, and the tandem of Ryan Mallet and Brian Hoyer from the Houston Texans twice this season. That’s 6 games where we know the Colts defense is going to have a chance to put up some fantasy points.
