LaMarcus Aldridge going to the Spurs might not be as much of a lock as people think, all thanks to the Phoenix Suns

After telling the Los Angeles Lakers “thanks, but no thanks” on Wednesday, everyone has moved all in with the assumption that free agent LaMarcus Aldridge is headed off to play for the San Antonio Spurs. Well, you might want to hold off on making those bets just yet, because there is another contender creeping up for his services: The Phoenix Suns.

According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Suns are coming up right next to the Spurs as a legitimate contender to land the services of one of the best big men in the NBA at the moment.

Well, now, this is getting pretty interesting, huh? But, it’s really not all that surprising. A move to the Suns might not turn out all that bad, especially with the young roster they have. Plus, on Wednesday, they brought in veteran Tyson Chandler, presumably to help them get in the running for Aldridge. Apparently, the plan is working thus far.

Still, though, whether or not they can finish the job and get him to sign over the Spurs remains to be seen. It’s going to be mighty difficult for anyone to convince Aldridge that he has a better chance of winning somewhere else than he would in San Antonio with those guys.

But for now, it appears we have a two-team race to get Aldridge’s name signed on the dotted line, and of course there’s the Trail Blazers in the background with their outside shot of bringing him back.
