5 best 2015 NBA Free Agency agreements through Day 1
By Jack Crosby
Tristan Thompson, Cleveland Cavaliers (5 years, $80 million)
As the 2015 NBA Finals played themselves out last month, we didn’t know if the Cleveland Cavaliers had enough in the tank to beat the Golden State Warriors. However, as each game passed, we did know one thing for absolute certain: Tristan Thompson was going to make himself a very rich man with his play on the court.
Well, on Wednesday, that was proven to be correct, as he and the Cavaliers came to an agreement on a five-year, $80 million deal that Thompson rightfully earned for himself.
LeBron James is the MVP of the Cavaliers, no one is going to argue that. But no one is also going to argue that Thompson was an important part of the Cavaliers making a run in the playoffs, and then winning two games against the Warriors. On both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor, Thompson owned the glass, virtually turning into a rebound machine. He was especially impressive on that offensive end, and we all know how valuable that is in the NBA.
There was a reason that LeBron specifically wanted the Cavaliers to make sure Tristan Thompson did not go anywhere. If your services are coveted that much by the best player on the planet, then you’re the best NBA Free Agency agreement thus far.
