The Phoenix Suns locked up center Tyson Chandler early in free agency with a commitment to sign. Chandler can’t officially sign a deal until the 9th of July but a deal is in place and agreed upon.
Chandler isn’t wasting any time trying to make an impact for his new organization either. The Suns are also amongst the teams trying to persuade Portland Trail Blazers free agent forward LaMarcus Aldridge.
Chandler, fresh of agreeing to a deal of his own, is going to join the Suns when they meet with Aldridge as part of their pitch to the All-Star.
Chandler certainly brings a perspective to the meeting that arguably on one else in the room has, being a player that is coveted and seeking a long-term deal and sorting through pitches. At the same time Chandler can’t be too fluent in the Suns’ goals and plans for the future having just been given the spiel too. He has no credible history with the organization to fall back on either.
The other impact this signing has is tremendous, teams like the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Clippers who were pursuing center DeAndre Jordan viewed Chandler as a safety net or back up plan. That option is no longer available.
