Things are about to get interesting in Sacramento, as the Kings have agreed to a deal with point guard Rajon Rondo.

Oh boy, the Sacramento Kings really did it, didn’t they?

After the dysfunctional relationship between George Karl and DeMarcus Cousins, trading away future assets and getting robbed by the Philadelphia 76ers,  getting used by NBA free agents for leverage, the Kings have added Rajon Rondo to the mix in Sacramento.

In a move that has been widely speculated for some time, Rondo will be signing a one-year deal with the Kings.

With the Kings seemingly doing everything wrong, it immediately doesn’t look good when they sign a point guard that almost brought down the Dallas Mavericks season by himself. Still, Rondo can be a good point guard, and in the right situation he can be a very productive player.

Is Sacramento the right fit for him? He is good friends with Rudy Gay, and was a Kentucky guy much like DeMarcus Cousins. He’s long reported been difficult to coach, even in a Boston Celtics locker room that featured the likes of Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce.

With the Kings striking out on every free agent but Marco Belinelli, and the interest in Rondo not as great as it would have been for a player who is easy to deal with, it seemed like there was only one match to be made for the two, and that’s with each other.

After George Karl tried to get rid of DeMarcus Cousins, it now appears that he gets to coach Cousins and deal with Rondo. Sacramento might be the laughingstock of the NBA right now, but they will certainly have lots of eyes on them to see how this one unfolds.

With a one-year deal, Rondo will have a good chance to re-establish his value. If he can get along with his teammates and put together a productive season, he should be able to get a nice deal somewhere next year. If not, he and the Kings have a long road ahead of them.
