NBA Free agency: Kings, Marco Belinelli reportedly agree
The Sacramento Kings scored a nice signing, agreeing to terms with free agent Marco Belinelli.
The Sacramento Kings cleared a great deal of cap room at the start of NBA free agency in the hopes of bringing in big-name targets like Monta Ellis and Wesley Matthews. With both of those players now having agreed to deals elsewhere, the Kings have kept it moving and made a solid addition to their roster using that newfound cap space.
According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, the Kings have agreed to a deal with sweet-shooting guard Marco Belinelli:
With some of the deals that we’ve seen handed out over the first three days of free agency, landing a player with the value of Belinelli for just over $6 million per year is a solid value signing for the Kings.

Belinelli fills a definite need for the Kings, one that even a higher-profile free agent like Ellis wouldn’t have. With DeMarcus Cousins anchoring the frontcourt, surrounding him with shooters is vital for Sacramento’s offense to run at its most effective. Seeing how Belinelli has shot 39.2 percent from three over his eight seasons in the league, he certainly fits that bill and that need for the Kings.
If Belinelli is the only signing of any consequence that the Kings make this summer, then clearing all of that cap space will undoubtedly look like a mistake considering they got almost nothing in return and gave up a highly drafted prospect in Nik Stauskas to make that room. However, you have to believe that this only the start for Vlade Divac and the Sacramento front office. It’ll be interesting to see if the other moves they make with the money they now have are as savvy as landing Belinelli.
