Terrible news out of Philadelphia regarding Joel Embiid. According to a report from Philly.com, Embiid, the team’s No. 1 draft pick from 2014, will have another surgery on his injured foot and is expected to miss his second consecutive season. His career could also be in jeopardy.

"“I would say there’s a great possibility that Embiid won’t play next year,” one source told the paper. “Just think how long they sat him when they thought he was healthy.”"

Embiid missed his rookie campaign due broken bone in his right foot. Despite reports of the seven-footer running and dunking at practices late in the season, Sixers management has acknowledged that his foot has not healed as well as was initially expected. Team president Sam Hinkie was mum on specifics as late as Thursday, though an inquirer source claims it’s if, and not when, Embiid will have the season-ending surgery.

"“No change as of yet,” Sixers general manager Sam Hinkie said Thursday. “A number of meetings are happening about that, even one today. But we have meetings almost every day about that. We don’t have anything ready to announce.”"

Embiid was expected to be part of a young, cornerstone frontcourt that features 2013 lottery pick Nerlens Noel and the Sixers’ No. 3 pick from 2015, Jahlil Okafor.
