The Sacramento Kings added another veteran player to the roster on Friday, when the team added forward Caron Butler.

Of all NBA teams, the Sacramento Kings may be having the most interesting offseason.

After trading young players and assets to the Philadelphia 76ers and whiffing on mutliple free agents, the Kings have added some players in the last week that may make them competitive in the West.

The latest reported addition to the Kings is veteran forward Caron Butler. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Butler will join the Kings on a two-year deal.

Butler would provide yet another veteran presence to a Sacramento locker room that has sorely needed it for a while. He brings depth and championship experience to the roster, and still possesses the ability to stroke it from beyond the arc.

He is the latest reported free agent signing for the Kings, after they reportedly have deals in place with Rajon Rondo, Marco Belinelli and Kosta Koufos. The team also drafted highly-touted big man Willie Cauley-Stein with the No. 6 overall pick in June’s draft.

A week ago things were looking bleak for the Sacramento Kings, and they still may be with the trading away of future assets and the unknown relationship status between DeMarcus Cousins and head coach George Karl.

Adding veteran pieces to the roster is never a bad idea, and the new additions should make Sacramento a competitive team. There is still one problem, and that is the fact that the Kings play in the Western Conference, which is stacked.

Can a core of Cousins, Rudy Gay, Rondo, Belinelli, Butler, Kosta Koufos, Ben McLemore, Darren Collison and Cauley-Stein win 40+ games in the Western Conference?

It looks like were about to find out.
