The Boston Celtics are still wheeling and dealing this summer, trading for Perry Jones III from the Oklahoma City Thunder.

After a relatively quite offseason, the Celtics pulled off another trade to grab yet another talented big man to throw into their rotations. Boston hasn’t been lighting things on fire in free agency, but they’ve been making subtle moves that make them a better team than they were last season.

That’s saying a lot considering they were a playoff team last year, making the postseason as a No. 7 seed.

Amir Johnson was the headline signing of the summer, and trading for David Lee was a key move for the future but Danny Ainge isn’t done yet. After considering his moves and what is available to him, the Celtics have moved future considerations to acquire big man Perry Jones III.

Perry Jones III could be a steal for the Celtics, who are presumably giving up a second-round pick down the road to acquire him. He had questions about him coming out of Baylor, but he’s still a giant and could end up being someone that a young Celtics team uses to beef up their front court.

The Thunder needed to clear some space to make sure they can match Enes Kanter’s max offer sheet from the Trail Blazers. They’re fully planning on matching that offer, and bringing Kanter back makes Jones irrelevant on the roster and the Celtics are more than happy to pick him up and see how he works with Brad Stevens’ system.
