The Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Dodgers are the front runners to get Cole Hamels in a trade before the deadline.

When you’re a pitcher on the trade block and you want to have a bit of say in where you end up, go out and throw a no-hitter. After Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels threw a no-hitter, offers have increased for the ace.

Despite a large field of teams seeking Hamels in a trade, a report from Jayson Stark of ESPN says two teams in particular have established themselves as front runners.

"The Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Dodgers have emerged over the weekend as the likely favorites to trade for Philadelphia Phillies ace Cole Hamels, multiple sources said."

Hamels joining the Dodgers’ rotation would be an interesting addition. Their roster is already anchored by Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke, Hamels would help establish a strong starting three.

Stark also added that there are still another four teams in the running: the Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants and Boston Red Sox.

All those teams are in relatively good shape heading into the back stretch of the season could contend for a playoff spot.

Hamels isn’t a short term rental for which ever team lands him because he is under contract for three more years after this season. There is also a team or vesting option for a fourth season.
