The Milwaukee Bucks are trying to get a new stadium so they don’t have to move to a new city, and it appears the latter will not be happening.

When the Milwaukee Bucks were purchased by a new ownership group, there were still hurdles that remained when it came to keeping the team in the city. If a new stadium couldn’t be agreed to and built, then the NBA would forcibly move the franchise to a new location — namely Seattle.

The only way that this won’t happen is if a new stadium deal can be agreed to and gets signed by the governor of Wisconsin. After months of drama, it appears that’s going to finally happen.

According to Jason Stein and Journal Sentinel colleague Patrick Marley, governor Scott Walker has stated he’s going to sign the stadium bill that has been passed to his desk this week.

"The Assembly approved the bill on a bipartisan vote of 52-34, leaving a healthy margin to spare because of absent lawmakers. The measure passed the Senate 21-10 on a bipartisan vote on July 15 and so it now goes to Walker."

Bucks fans have been very nervous about this whole ordeal for a long time, as the threat that the team could leave has been very real. No one in the state wants to see the team leaves, and that’s probably not going to happen.

Folks in Milwaukee love their team, and they probably looked at what happened to the Seattle Sonics and how well their prolonged battle to not have to pay for a stadium went. Things ended with the franchise moving to Oklahoma City, and the Bucks are not going to be suffering that fate.

They might not end up being any good, which would be a bummer, but at the very least they’re finally going to get rid of the rancid and disgusting building they play in right now.
