It appears as if the Yankees might not be all that serious about acquiring Craig Kimbrel as some may think

With the MLB Trade Deadline nearly here, there are still a few storylines that everyone is keeping an eye on. One of them surrounds the reports over the past week that the Yankees may be interested in acquiring closer Craig Kimbrel from the Padres. This possibility has been reported by multiple outlets recently, so it’s believe there is some weight to it.

Well, that might not be the case after all.

The deadline is fast approaching here on Friday and Joel Sherman is reporting that the first-place Yankees have not had any talks about adding Kimbrel to the bullpen.

From the onset of these reports, this seemed like s strange deal to begin with. While the Yankees are making a push for the playoffs, they really don’t need the help in the bullpen all that much. Kimbrel would no doubt be a nice piece in there — but he’s not a necessary one.

Now if the Yankees aren’t in talks with the Padres about Kimbrel, basically anything can happen within the next hours in regards to the future of the closer. There are a few more teams that reportedly are on board for a deal, so it can be anywhere at this point.
