Fantasy NASCAR Scoring Changes on DraftKings effective 8/2
DraftKings announced on 7/30 an issue with their scoring system that effected the fantasy outcome of races and introduced changes to the Fantasy NASCAR scoring that will take place starting at the next race at Pocono Raceway on August 2nd, 2015 for the Windows 10 400.

DraftKings announced that the Pass Differential data that was calculated in real-time and used for DK game scoring varied from the final official NASCAR statistics for technical reasons, and required a reconciliation process after the race. This post-race true-up process was not put into place until after the last race on July 26th. Previous contests offered on DraftKings were finalized with real-time, non-reconciled Pass Differential data.

To be fair to DraftKings entrants in the light of how the final pass differential stats impacted Fantasy NASCAR contests, DraftKings issued this statement, “Our stats-provider has provided updates where necessary to the Pass Differential data that was used for previous race contests offered on DraftKings, and we have used the new data to re-calculate correct payouts. All players whose entries were negatively impacted have been credited the difference in payouts that they would have gotten had this data been trued up post-race for the prior race contests. Funds will not be removed from any user accounts that were positively impacted.”
Moving forward, DK announced two major changes to take effect immediately. Let’s take a look at them!

Beyond the Flag
First, DraftKings announced that “since Pass Differential data can change post-race, it does not fit with DraftKings’ real-time user-experience standards, and therefore we have removed it from the game moving forward, starting with the race contest on Sunday August 2nd”. So with the Pass Differential category going away, this leaves Finishing Position, Laps Led, Fastest Laps, and Place Differential as the sole factors to determine fantasy scoring.
Second, in an unrelated change to the Pass Differential adjustments, and based on feedback from users, DraftKings will increase # of drivers per lineup to six from five. The salary cap will remain at $50,000 so the average salary of entrants will decrease from $10,000 to $8,333 and force players to use lower salaried drivers.
We will further break down these scoring changes and how they will impact you in future Fantasy NASCAR contests starting with the Windows 10 400 Fantasy Analysis and Early Picks that will released on late Friday or early Saturday.
