The Baltimore Orioles appear to have found the outfield help they wanted, agreeing to a trade for Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Gerardo Parra.

The Baltimore Orioles have sat on the outside of the MLB trade market for most of the season, but now appear ready to add the outfielder they’ve long needed. According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Orioles are nearing a deal with the Milwaukee Brewers that would send outfielder Gerardo Parra to Baltimore and pitching prospect Zach Davies to Milwaukee. Jon Heyman of CBS has since confirmed the deal and has said it is pending physicals.

The Orioles have been getting by with lackluster outfield play all season and have been looking for a potential upgrade. However, the team has been hesitant to part with major prospects for a rental player, which has taken them out of the market for the likes of Justin Upton or Yoenis Cespedes. That said, Parra is a decent addition and could be similar to the team’s acquisition of Alejandro De Aza a season ago.

Parra, who is a free agent after the season, is in the midst of a career season in Milwaukee. In 100 games, the outfielder has slashed .328/.369/.517 with nine home runs, 31 RBI, and  runs scored. Additionally, he is an excellent right fielder, posting a UZR/150 in 2015.

In return, the Orioles will send Zack Davies to the Brewers. Davies ranks as the third best prospect in the Orioles system per the latest MLB.com rankings. A 22-year-old right-hander, Davies is 5-6 with a 2.89 ERA and a 7.19 K/9 ratio at Triple-A Norfolk. Not an overpowering pitcher, Davies is a control artist that has an average fastball but compliments that with one of the best change-ups in the game and a curve that is seen as a potential plus pitch down the road. Given his maturity on the mound, he could easily move into the Brewers rotation in September and be an immediate contributor.

This is a win-win deal for both teams. The Orioles get an outfield upgrade they badly needed but don’t have to include either Dylan Bundy, Hunter Harvey, or Kevin Gausman in the deal. Meanwhile, the Brewers pick up a very capable starter for the future in exchange for a castaway outfielder.
