Kansas City Chiefs – Eric Fisher

Why is he the pick?

The Chiefs have spent the offseason trying to make themselves into Super Bowl contenders, and seem to have most of the pieces in place. However, left tackle remains a point of major concern. Fisher is entering his third season after being the top-overall pick in 2013, but has failed to show the dominance that general manager John Dorsey expected when he picked Fisher.

Kansas City’s offensive line is almost completely remade outside of Fisher. Left guard was massively upgraded from Mike McGlynn to Ben Grubbs, while the right side will have Jeff Allen and Donald Stephenson starting after lost years in 2014 due to injury and suspension, respectively. Yet, all of those upgrades mean nothing if Fisher continues to get beat around the edge.

What is at stake?

The Chiefs’ ability to realistically compete for a Super Bowl. Kansas City finished seventh in yards allowed and second in points surrendered last season, and this year are getting back Eric Berry, Mike DeVito and Derrick Johnson from injury. Offensively, Jeremy Maclin has been added to a core that features Jamaal Charles and Travis Kelce. If the line can protect Alex Smith, especially Fisher, the Chiefs are primed.
