The Toronto Blue Jays were one of the biggest buyers during the trade deadline. They added an ace to the rotation and upgraded the shortstop position. However, the Jays made an interesting trade with the Philadelphia Phillies for another outfielder, Ben Revere. As a result, Chris Colabello no longer has a starting job, making him useless in standard fantasy leagues.

This is unfortunate for Colabello. He was having a very good season. After spending two years in Minnesota and playing just 114 mediocre games, he broke out with the Blue Jays. He missed about a month in the beginning of the 2015 season, but came back strong. In 67 games, he has 10 home runs, 41 RBI 64:16 K:BB rate and a .315 batting average.

Chris Colabello was a part of a very dangerous Toronto lineup. He batted behind Josh DonaldsonJose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion. Because of this, his peak ownership was close to 60 percent in ESPN.com leagues.

Now, he will be playing in less games due to the arrival of Revere. He came from the Phillies, hitting 20 extra base hits with 26 RBI, 24 stolen bases and a .298 batting average in 96 games. His 24 SBs lead all current Blue Jays players. Next in line is Kevin Pillar with 15. In the spacious Rogers Centre, Revere should flourish in the upgraded lineup.

Chris Colabello has played some games at first base, most recently on August 2. He has first base eligibility, giving him a little boost in fantasy value. Though, first base is a very crowded position. So, dropping one of them to make room for Colabello is unlikely.

Fantasy owners are already dumping Colabello. Even with the chance he plays three times a week, his ownership percentage dropped 8.5 percent over the last seven days, sitting at 49.9 percent. I will safely assume that the majority of that percentage are from owners in keeper or dynasty leagues, so those numbers are skewed a bit.

Unless you are in one of those leagues, Chris Colabello serves no purpose on your fantasy team. Revere is the starting left fielder, Pillar is in center and Bautista mans right field. He isn’t worth keeping for those 12 at bats per week. There are plenty of outfielders to replace him with off the waiver wire.
