7: San Francisco Giants

ACQUIRED: RHP Mike Leake (from Reds)

TRADED: RHP Keury Mella (to Reds), 1B Adam Duvall (to Reds)

Like the Nats, I envisioned the San Francisco Giants chasing a much-needed bat for their playoff push. Buster Posey has been alone for much of the season and there was a serious lack of punch in the Giants batting order for a playoff contender, let alone the defending champions.

Of course they went in a completely different direction.

The lone acquisition that Brian Sabean made for San Francisco was adding Mike Leake. The Giants were indeed in on Cole Hamels as well, but Leake came at a smaller investment, albeit a still high one  costing them Keury Mella. Leake is definitely a solid addition as well, giving the Giants a solid starting five

The need for a bat is still there and the Giants perhaps felt they could address it in August, when prices are a bit lower as teams try to dump contracts or secure anything for impending free agents not yet traded. Then again, the returns of Hunter Pence and Nori Aoki has helped quell that need a bit as well, perhaps giving the Giants the allusion that things may still be okay.
