Billy Beane always has a bullet to fire when the trade deadline comes around and for the most part, the GM generally gets maximum value out of his moves. 2015 was no exception.

In Scott Kazmir, Ben Zobrist, and Tyler Clippard, Beane had three pieces to move that could arguably help a contender down the stretch. Unlike some teams with available talent, Beane was able to move all three of them.

For Kazmir, Oakland acquired catcher Jacob Nottingham and RHP Daniel Mengden. For Zobrist they landed LHP Sean Manaea and RHP Aaron Brooks. Clippard brought the A’s RHP Casey Meisner. Manaea (#3), Nottingham (#8), Meisner (#11), and Mengden (#25) all entered the team’s top-30 prospects and all represent some serious building blocks for an A’s team that has a knack for finding some quality prospects to build with.

This year’s deadline moves almost make up for the mistakes of 2014 and puts the Athletics back on the path that best suits their market.
