49ers release Aldon Smith after latest arrest

The San Francisco 49ers will be releasing Aldon Smith following his latest arrest and jailing on Thursday night
San Francisco 49ers defensive end Aldon Smith ran into some more trouble with the law on Thursday night, as he was arrested on charges that included DUI, Hit & Run and vandalism. It was yet another brush with the law for someone that has had far too many of them thus far, especially alcohol-related ones.
Because of this, it’s going to cost him his job, finally.
According to Jim Trotter, the 49ers do indeed plan on releasing Smith following this latest arrest.
Just recently General Manager Trent Baalke noted that he was seeing some signs of maturity in Smith, but this latest disappointment was not enough to handle this time around. Would Smith have remained a part of the 49ers organization, then this would have been the third consecutive year that he missed time during the season for something that pertained to alcohol. Now, it’s basically time to get help.
Also recently, Baalke was apparently so impressed with the progression of Smith off the field that they were talking about a potential extension for the defensive star. A good showing this year on the field for the Niners may have gotten him paid. ‘
Now, though, there’s a lot more worries on the plate of Smith other than what his bank account looks like. Aside from obviously getting his alcohol issues under control, there’s a chance he might not play in the NFL again if he doesn’t get everything together.
