Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson to miss time with hamstring injury
The Buffalo Bills will be without running back Fred Jackson after a hamstring injury will sideline him for a couple of weeks.
After a few seasons of watching Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller trade time off with various injuries, the Buffalo Bills decided a change was in order and acquired running back LeSean McCoy this offseason. The move gave the Bills a new featured back and allowed the team to move on from Spiller (now with the Saints) and slide Fred Jackson into a reserve role with the team.

It’s already looking like a brilliant idea.
According to Jonah Javad of WGRZ in Buffalo, the Bills have announced that Jackson will be out with a hamstring injury. Head Coach Rex Ryan feels the injury is only minor, but will keep him out of practice for the next few weeks.
After missing a few games with a groin injury in 2014, Jackson started nine of 14 contests last season, racking up 525 yards on 141 carries, including two touchdowns. However, he figured much more prominently in the passing game last season, tallying 66 receptions, 501 yards and a touchdown.
Most remembered as being the running back that stole Marshawn Lynch’s job in Buffalo, it has been an interesting career for Jackson to say the least. While he has only one surpassed the 1000-yard mark on the ground in a season (2009), Jackson has nonetheless been a multi-talented weapon in the backfield, tallying 1000 all-purpose yards on five separate occasions.
However, staying on the field has always been an issue for Fred Jackson. In addition to the two games lost in 2014 to the groin injury, Jackson missed six games in each of 2011 and 2012 with a broken fibula suffered during Week Eleven in 2011. He also played in just eight games during his 2007 rookie season.
Of course, his touches and time on the field were going to be fairly limited in 2015 anyway. With McCoy the featured back and being a solid multi-purpose back himself, Jackson would likely have seen his snaps cut to a minimum and would have likely served as a change of pace back or additional receiver on third down plays.
